Every Velox installation is photographed at three stages: existing condition before work begins, mid-installation showing materials and methods, and final commissioning with measured performance data. The documentation serves three purposes. First, it’s the warranty record — manufacturer registration on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Mitsubishi, and Daikin equipment requires installer-verified documentation, and we attach photos to every warranty submission. Second, it’s the permit record for Logan City Building Inspection, North Logan Public Works, and the Cache County Building Department, all of whom now accept digital photo attachments alongside the standard mechanical permit forms. Third, it’s the homeowner’s record. When you sell your home, the disclosure questionnaire asks about mechanical system age, brand, and installation quality. We give you the file.

Furnace Installations — 90%+ AFUE Condensing
A 1923 Logan historic-district brick four-square on Federal Avenue, original cast-iron radiator system retained for shoulder-season use, required a separate ducted furnace system for whole-house forced-air cooling integration. We installed a Trane S9X2 96% AFUE two-stage 80,000 BTU/hr furnace with a high-altitude derate kit factory-installed for 4,500-foot elevation. Vent termination through the north sidewall per UMC 510, condensate routed to the basement floor drain with a Little Giant pumped trap. Gas pressure verified at 11″ WC manifold under firing-rate load against the Dominion Energy meter regulator output. Combustion analysis at commissioning: 38 ppm CO air-free, stack temperature 285°F, AFUE-corrected to nameplate spec.
A 2008 North Logan east-bench tri-level above 4,750 feet had been running a builder-grade 80% AFUE Goodman GMS80 for sixteen years with no service history visible on the equipment tag. The heat exchanger showed primary-cell scaling under borescope inspection. We replaced with a Carrier 59TP6B 96.5% AFUE two-stage modulating furnace, sized to a 68,000 BTU/hr design load per Calvin’s Manual J calculation. The bench property’s exposure (south-facing, full sun on west wall after 2 p.m.) drove a cooling-side oversizing risk that we addressed by paring the AC selection to a 2.5-ton unit rather than the 3-ton the duct system was originally sized for.
Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Installations
The 2025 EPA refrigerant transition to R-454B drove a wave of late-2024 R-410A installations from homeowners who wanted to lock in legacy refrigerant pricing before the changeover. We installed a Carrier 24ANB7 16-SEER2 R-410A condenser on a 2014 Nibley single-story home in October 2024, paired with a CNPVU evaporator coil and a Carrier 59MN7 variable-speed furnace already in place. Refrigerant charge weighed in at 6.2 lbs, verified against AHRI-tested line set length, then commissioning superheat tested at 11°F against a target of 10±3°F at the measured indoor wet bulb.
For 2025 installations under the R-454B mandate, we’ve standardized on the Carrier 38MURA Inverter Heat Pump and the Bosch IDS 2.0 Premium for cold-climate variable-capacity applications. A 2,400-square-foot home in the Cliffside neighborhood at 4,820 feet of elevation received a Mitsubishi MXZ-SM48NAM2 multi-zone hyper-heat outdoor unit with five MSZ-FS indoor heads serving zoned distribution to the main living area, primary bedroom, two secondary bedrooms, and a finished basement. Heat pump capacity rated at 100% nameplate at 5°F outdoor temperature, against Cache Valley’s 3°F ASHRAE 99% winter design.
Boiler and Hydronic System Work
Logan’s historic district along Center Street, 100 South, and Federal Avenue contains a high density of pre-1940 housing stock with original cast-iron radiator and steam systems still operating. We retain these systems when they’re sound and replace components — air vents, zone valves, circulators, pressure-reducing valves — rather than condemning the whole installation.
A 1908 brick Italianate on 200 East had been running an original American Radiator Company gravity-fed coal-converted-to-gas one-pipe steam system, with a 1968-vintage Burnham V11 boiler tied to the original riser network. The boiler had cracked along the section gasket line. We installed a Weil-McLain SGO-3 oil-converted-to-gas cast-iron sectional boiler, retained the original 1908 radiator network with new Honeywell air vents at each radiator, and added a Tekmar 256 outdoor reset control to modulate boiler water temperature against ambient. Heating cost dropped 31% the first winter post-install.
A 2003 Providence canyon-entrance home had been running a wall-hung modulating-condensing boiler (a Triangle Tube Prestige) on staple-up radiant heating in the main floor and finned-tube baseboard in the basement. The boiler had failed at the secondary heat exchanger after 21 years. Replacement with a Viessmann Vitodens 100-W B1HE with integrated outdoor reset; staple-up loop pressure tested and air-purged through a Spirovent; basement baseboard zone separated onto a new Taco 007e ECM circulator.
Indoor Air Quality Upgrades
Cache County’s federal PM2.5 nonattainment designation makes filtration a measurable health issue, not a marketing add-on. A USU faculty-housing-corridor home on 1200 East installed an Aprilaire 4400 cabinet-style MERV 16 filter (16x25x6 nominal) integrated with the existing Lennox SL280UH variable-speed furnace blower. Static pressure across the new filter cabinet measured 0.18″ WC at 1,200 CFM, well inside the blower’s 0.5″ WC total external static budget.
A Cliffside-neighborhood home with two asthmatic children added an IQAir HealthPro Plus HEPA bypass system, ducted in parallel with the main supply trunk and switched on demand via a wall-mounted controller. Whole-house HEPA filtration measured to ISO 29463-rated efficiency at 0.3 microns, capturing the inversion-season PM2.5 load that MERV 13 alone allows through.
A 2017 Nibley high-efficiency build, blower-door tested at 1.4 ACH50, received a Zehnder ComfoAir Q450 ERV with dedicated supply and exhaust ductwork balanced at 105 CFM continuous. The ERV recovers approximately 84% of sensible heat in winter, critical at Climate Zone 5B heating degree days, and balances moisture during the dry months when interior RH on a tight envelope can drop below 18%.
Commercial Rooftop and Light Industrial
A dental office on 200 North in Logan replaced two 14-year-old Bryant 580J 5-ton rooftop units with two Carrier 48HC 4-ton units (right-sized after a recalculated load), each fitted with W7220 economizer controls for free-cooling during shoulder seasons. The combined utility bill dropped 19% the following summer. Filter retrofits to MERV 13 cabinet replacements on both units brought the ventilation rate up to ASHRAE 62.1 for the chair-side aerosol load.
A small machine shop in the USU Innovation Park light-industrial area near 800 North required dedicated outdoor air supply for welding-fume management. We installed a Greenheck IGX-118 indirect gas-fired makeup air unit rated for 4,500 CFM at 65°F outdoor air heating, paired with two pre-existing exhaust hoods. Building static pressure balanced to slightly positive at 0.02″ WC to prevent neutral-pressure infiltration during inversion events.
Before-and-After Diagnostic Repairs
A Hyde Park homeowner’s heat pump had been short-cycling every 4–7 minutes during cold-snap operation. Two prior contractors had quoted complete equipment replacement. Velox static-pressure testing found total external static of 1.08″ WC against the variable-speed blower’s 0.8″ WC maximum. A single collapsed flex run between the air handler and the upstairs supply plenum was causing the entire system to short-cycle on overheat protection. Replaced the flex with rigid trunk and properly sealed transitions. Static dropped to 0.52″ WC. Short-cycling resolved.
A 1996 Lennox condenser in Logan’s Adams neighborhood was reading 8 microfarads on a 35-microfarad-rated start capacitor. Symptom: condenser fan starts but compressor doesn’t. Replacement capacitor: $42 in parts, $128 labor. The Lennox runs another five years before the next planned upgrade.

- Yes, by default. Every Velox installation is documented for warranty, permit, and homeowner-disclosure purposes. Roughly 85% of customers consent to use of photos with their neighborhood (not address) identified.
